10 Day Jordan Itinerary Day 1

Arrive in Aqaba

For this itinerary, it is easiest to start in either Aqaba or Amman and end in the other. If possible, start by flying into Aqaba and flying out of Amman at the end of your trip. If you cannot make it work that way, you can also do this itinerary in reverse starting from Amman and ending in Aqaba with a quick flight back to Amman on your last day.

See the itinerary modifications section below for more variations on this Jordan itinerary so you can make this trip work in your schedule.

🤿 Depending on when you arrive, spend the morning in Aqaba on the Red Sea. Aqaba is known for its amazing snorkeling and diving excursions. If you love water activities and have time to fit this in, book a diving experience during your morning in Aqaba.

Head to the Wadi Rum Desert

After your time in Aqaba, transfer to the Wadi Rum desert (see the transportation section below for more information about how to travel around the country of Jordan) and live like a Bedouin, or a long lost Martian, for a couple of days. Book the two day, two night Jabal Al-Hash tour through Wadi Rum Nomads. This tour will pack in hiking, rock scrambling, and some of the most spectacular desert views you’ve ever seen. Their company is amazing plus the food and tent accommodations are wonderful.

Wadi Rum Nomads is great at communicating and working with your schedule for when you can arrive and when you have to head back to town. They can provide transportation to their office in the village before they pick you up and take you into the desert.

The first night you’ll be treated to an epic Bedouin meal complete with music, community and of course, tea. Spend the night in your tent with the most amazing views of the desert stars. If you’re feeling brave, you can even sleep under the stars instead of your tent. We were NOT sponsored by Wadi Rum Nomads we just truly loved the experience.

Where We Stayed

We stayed with Wadi Rum Nomads in the Wadi Rum desert. They arranged our transportation to the Wadi Rum village and then transported us to their camp in the desert. We received awesome service from everyone at Wadi Rum Nomads and would highly recommend staying with them during your time in the desert.

Jordan Itinerary Day 2

Sightseeing in the Wadi Rum

Your full day in the desert will be filled with many activities including exploring the Lawrence Spring, running up and down red sand dunes, walking through canyons, and climbing up rock bridges. Get comfy in the back of the Jeep and keep a lookout for camels as your guides show you around the mystical desert. All of these activities are great for any fitness level so don’t worry if you aren’t a huge hiker. Have Bedouin lunch in the desert before continuing on to a few more climbing/hiking stops in the afternoon.

One of our favorite things during our time in the desert was scrambling to the top of a small rock mountain to watch the sunset. There’s nothing quite like this view of the vast desert. Finally, return to camp for another tasty dinner before turning in.

Stay in the Wadi Rum again tonight.

Jordan Itinerary Day 3

Hike Jabal Al-Hash

After your last Bedouin breakfast in the desert, hop in the Jeep and make your way to Jabal Al-Hash. Hike with your guide to overlook the Saudi Arabia border. It’s a very easy hike and the views from the top are amazing! Enjoy lunch in the desert and end your time with a camel or Jeep ride back to town where you’ll continue on your way to one of the most iconic architectural sites in the world – Petra. See the transportation section below for more information about how to get around Jordan.

Dinner

In the evening, check into your hotel in Wadi Musa before walking to dinner at Al Wadi Restaurant. End your evening with drinks at the one of a kind Cave Bar operating out an original Nabatean Tomb.

Where We Stayed

We stayed at La Maison Hotel in Petra and really enjoyed it. It was a great location only a five minute walk to the entrance to Petra and a short walk to restaurants. I would highly recommend this hotel during your stay!

Jordan Itinerary Day 4

Explore the Rose City of Petra

Spend today hiking and exploring the Rose City of Petra. GET THERE EARLY! I mean it! Petra gets very busy early in the morning and continues to get busier as the day goes on – I’m looking at you cruise ships. It is absolutely worth the early morning alarm to get there as soon as it opens (even before) to get in line to buy tickets – you will have the place almost to yourself for a bit and it is so magical to experience it with very few other people.

TIP: Don’t forget your passport when going to buy tickets. They will put your name on your ticket so you can get in again the next day (if you are buying a multi-day ticket) and they require identification.

Explore the City of Wadi Musa + Dinner

If you get to Petra early enough you can spend the morning hiking and use your afternoon to relax and explore the city. Check out the Al Baraka Tea Room inside the Movenpick hotel and in the evening, head to Beit Al Barakah for drinks and/or dinner.

Stay at your Wadi Musa hotel again tonight.

Jordan Itinerary Day 5

Hiking in Petra

Get up early again today for your second morning in Petra. Leave one of your longer hikes for this morning. The Main Trail to Ad Deir is a great one since you will have the top all to yourself. Once you’ve had your fill of the beautiful city of Petra, walk to Reem Beladi for lunch before heading back to your hotel and getting ready to transfer to the Dead Sea.

Transfer to the Dead Sea

Now it’s time to move on to your next destination – the Dead Sea.

🚘 If you don’t have a car – Book your transfer from Petra to the Dead Sea here!

The Dead Sea is the lowest point on earth (about 430 meters below sea level) and known for its mineral rich waters.

Where We Stayed

We stayed at the Wadi Mujib Chalets and while the were not the most fancy accommodations in the area, they provided the BEST experience. The Wadi Mujib Chalets are private bungalows complete with terraces showing unobstructed views of the Dead Sea. Unlike the resorts, there are only a few chalets so the private beach will feel actually private! You can find yourself floating in the Dead Sea with no-one else around and that, my friends, is worth trading luxury resort amenities for more simplistic accommodations.

Breakfast is provided here and you have the option to book lunch and dinner before you arrive. This is an awesome spot to bring some cards, sit back, relax and enjoy some killer views. Bonus points for floating during sunrise and/or sunset.

If you prefer the resort life, the Kempinski Hotel Ishtar or Movenpick Resort and Spa are also great options in the area.

Jordan Itinerary Day 6

Explore the Wadi Mujib Canon or Relax at the Dead Sea

Depending on what month you travel you can use this day for another hike or excursion or you can just spend the day relaxing on the beach and floating in the salt water.

If you are planning to be here between April and October, you can opt to go canyoning in the Wadi Mujib. This was closed during our trip so we were not able to partake but if you are up for an adventure, this experience is supposed to be amazing.

✨ Get into the Jordanian wilderness for a hike through the canyons in the Wadi Mujib Nature Reserve. A mix of hiking and swimming in a waterfall! Book your spot here!

Otherwise, just spend your day relaxing and taking in this beautiful place. It’s surreal to float in these waters and look around at the amazing scenery.

Jordan Itinerary Day 7

Sunrise at the Dead Sea

Wake up for sunrise (if you’re into that kinda thing) and enjoy your last beautiful morning on the Dead Sea. This view is definitely worth a little less sleep.

Sightseeing in Central and Northern Jordan

Today, book a sightseeing and transfer day through Jordanian Adventures. Get picked up at your accommodations in Wadi Mujib and make some stops on your way to Tabaqat Fahl.

If you want to make this a 7-day trip: Use this day for a sightseeing tour from the Dead Sea and spend one more night at your Dead Sea accommodations before continuing to Amman and home the next day. Reserve your spot on our favorite sightseeing tour from the Dead Sea!

Stop 1: Mount Nebo

Mount Nebo is a sacred mountain said to be the place where Moses was able to see the Promised Land before he died. Here you can see sweeping views of the Jordan Valley and check out Moses Memorial Church filled with ancient mosaics.

Stop 2: Jerash

Your next stop is Jerash where you can spend a lot of time exploring. As one of the best preserved roman cities outside of Italy, this stop provides some impressive ruins and architecture.

Stop 3: Ajloun Castle

The Ajloun Castle is a medieval castle built in the 12th century. Here you can walk through the building and see some amazing views over the hills of Jordan.

Where We Stayed

Finally, get dropped off at one of the best off the beaten path villas I’ve ever found. We stayed in the middle of the countryside next to Pella, this stop is a must for anyone who appreciates staying in the middle of nowhere. Enjoy stunning views of the Jordan countryside and end your trip with some relaxation. After all you’ve packed in thus far, you’ll appreciate the rest. We truly loved adding this off the beaten path stop to our itinerary in Jordan.

Jordan Itinerary Day 8

Relax in the Jordanian Countryside

One of the best things about this house is the breakfast with these amazing views. A sweet woman shows up in the morning to make you a feast. Enjoy a classic Jordanian breakfast spread while you look out over the vast landscape. Use today to relax, explore the ancient ruins of Pella, and feel like a local Jordanian. The ruins of Pella are right down the road and can be accessed by foot.

Dinner

In the evening, walk down the hill to Pella Rest House for dinner. They don’t post hours (they close when they feel like it every day) so definitely go for an early dinner. They will also serve you a feast whether you ask for it or not because apparently that’s just how they do it in Jordan (no complaints here).

Jordan Itinerary Day 9

Transfer to Amman

Enjoy another to die for breakfast on the best balcony of all time before heading to Amman for your last day. Book your transfer from Tabaqat Fahl to Amman here!

Explore Amman

In Amman, check into your hotel before heading out to sightsee in the city. The best stop is The Citadel (Jabal al-Qalaa) located on a hill at the top of Amman. Walk around here and explore the ruins before heading to the Roman Theater.

Have lunch at Hashem before using the afternoon to explore the markets, rainbow street, and make a stop for the best Kunafa at Habibah Sweets.

🚶🏽‍♀️Join a guided tour of Amman with a local for a more in depth experience. Reserve your spot here!

Where We Stayed

We stayed at the Nomads Hotel in the center of Amman. It was nothing fancy but it was fine for a one night stay!

Jordan Itinerary Day 10

Spend whatever remaining time you have in Amman before heading to the airport to catch your flight home or continue on to your next destination. Make your life easy and book a transfer to take you right to the airport.

10 Day Jordan Itinerary Modifications

If you’re starting your trip in Amman – do this trip in reverse:

Day 1: Amman
Day 2: Ajloun/Jerash/Tabaqat Fahl
Day 3: Tabaqat Fahl
Day 4: Mount Nebo/Dead Sea
Day 5: Dead Sea
Day 6: Dead Sea/Petra
Day 7: Petra
Day 8: Petra/Wadi Rum
Day 9: Wadi Rum
Day 10: Wadi Rum/Depart from Aqaba

With less time:

Spending ten days in Jordan gives you a great amount of time to really see the country and experience everything it has to offer. However, if you only have a week or less consider any of the following ideas:

  • Drop the stop in Tabaqat Fahl and end your sightseeing day in Amman (7 Nights)
  • Book a one day/one night tour in Wadi Rum instead of two and only spend one night at the Dead Sea (7 Nights)
  • Spend only one night in Wadi Mujib and cut the night in Amman (7 Nights)

To make this a 5 day trip, start in Amman and take a two-day tour from Amman or a three-day tour from Amman to get a taste of Jordan without having to navigate on your own.

With more time:

If you have more than ten days, consider any of the following ideas:

  • Add more time in the desert. You can book three or four night tours through Wadi Nomads and other Wadi Rum tour companies.
  • Add sightseeing stops to Madaba and/or Umm Qais.
  • Spend more time relaxing at the Dead Sea.
  • Add some time in Aqaba on the Red Sea diving, snorkeling or relaxing at the beach.

Getting Around Jordan

One of the most convenient and cost effective ways to get around is by rental a car. This option will provide you with the most flexibility to access remote locations like the Dead Sea and Tabaqat Fahl. However, bigger cities like Amman and busy attractions like Jerash and Aljouin will be harder the drive in and park.

The most convenient and comfortable way to get around is by private transport. This is a more expensive option than renting a car. Prices will vary depending on your group size and where you need to go but this is definitely the easiest way to get from one stop to another without having to worry about parking and driving in busy cities. We had a great experience using Jordania Adventura Drivers for multiple transfers. Their drivers were always on time, polite and professional.
